No News Is Good News
Right now is a good time to be a Holland.
Today Sarah and I closed on our home in Bedford. I'm sitting here trying to contain myself from planning parties every weekend for the sake of my wife's sanity. As often as we used to have people over in San Antonio, it's been more than a little painful to reside in such a small abode. Between me, Sarah, a 90lb dog, and el gato loco there isn't a whole lot of free air in here! Now we'll be able to spread our wings a bit, so to say.
We also have absolutely NO news in regards to Baby H right now. Boring, but good news! About the only visible progress is the "baby bump". I won't lie, it's pretty cute. Just below Sarah's belly button is the emergence of Baby H's cocoon. I plan on taking photos every two weeks and trying to prepare some sort of collage once all is said and done. Ashlee, I may hire your professional services for the final touches! (That girl's good....) I'm sure Sarah has a little more insight into what exactly is going on in there, so hopefully she'll write up a post soon.
So, here we stand at 13 weeks. According to my sappy count-down timer we still have 192 days ahead, leaving me plenty of time to daydream. Next big waypoint: Gender discovery in week 20! It'll be here before we know it!
Happy holidays everyone, and stay warm!

Daddy's Turn
Since it’s been some time since we’ve had an entry here, and since I always seem to have something to say anyway, I figured I’d chime in with my two cents on this whole “pregnancy” thing.
Sarah’s finally hit the second trimester. She’s right at about 12 weeks and, thankfully, much of the queasiness is starting to subside. I’d read about this fact, but reality was much more apparent: “morning sickness” is a DIRTY rumor. She basically suffered from morning-, night-, mid-afternoon-, 2:15pm-, midnight-, and 3:45am-sickness. Luckily there were only a few audibly sick moments, but she informed me there was about a two month span that passed where the butterflies never took a break.
So, what’s mom doing now-a-days? Sleeping. A lot. Needless to say she’s become a real burden on our nightlife. I’ve begun reading more and more lately, so we’re usually in bed by 9pm or so. She tends to crash immediately. There’s been a mass influx of nap times and couch breaks, none of which I am complaining about by the way…
She also has completely quit sharing her food with me! I know, greedy right? I’ve actually lost weight due to the decrease in both alcohol consumption and Sarah Holland leftovers. Her weight gain is right on track, so things are looking good. So far, at the 3 month mark, she’s only gained about 3 lbs.
We had our first sonogram a couple of weeks ago. I went in with the expectation of just hearing the heart beat. I was informed right off that this would not be a possibility (they didn’t have the machine set up to do this). My dismay was immediately overturned to amazement when the doctor came in and flipped on the sonogram screen. I imagined it would take some time to see our child for the first time, but so it was that on 11/25/08 we got to meet “it” face-to-screen.
I imagined this would be much like the episode of Friends when Ross and Rachel have their first sonogram and Rachel immediately begins crying because she can’t see anything. I’ve never been able to make out what was a hand, and foot, or an eye socket in these things. Technology, however, has advanced quickly:

Then they clicked on the 3D image, and lo and behold it’s the most beautiful baby I’d ever seen:

To be fair, in actuality I really hope it gets Sarah’s looks. ESPECIALLY my swimmer lacked that Y chromosome.

Little H was really moving at first too! He/She/It took a short break when the OB/GYN first turned the screen toward Sarah, but a few shakes of Sarah’s belly by the doc (which was really funny to watch on the screen. Little H bounced around in the sac like a game of pong!) and it was right back to waving at us. We could even see the heart beating and watch the blood flow through the umbilical cord. I got sappy watching a screen; God help me when this thing is actually born.
I’ll try to post a little more often than we have been. We put a contract in on a house last week and are hoping for a 15 day close, so hopefully I’ll have news and pictures up soon.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

Our Texas Tech Baby
is ready for next fall! Jay went to Lubbock this last week and as you can see came home with a bag full of cute baby Tech gear. No house divided shirts for this family we are Red Raiders all the way!
This week was the first time that ESPN College Game Day was in Lubbock before the game and Jay and I were sure to catch that this morning. Amazingly enough, Lee Corso actually put on the Red Raider mascot head to confirm his game day team selection. It was fantastic! Jay took some pictures of the TV so we could relive this memory for years to come. Judging from ESPN Game Days history, they may not be back in Lubbock again for a while! Tonight, we are headed to Phils house to watch the game on his fabulous TV! GO TECH GO!!!

Week Six
has been going pretty well. I have to admit that I am not feeling that great, but from what I have read it could be worse...much worse! Mornings and later in the evening are my most uncomfortable parts of the day. Luck for Jay, he gets to enjoy them both!
Last night, Jenny came over the house for dinner with Topanga (TP) dog. It is always so nice to have company for dinner and play time with TP. I warned Jenny that dinner time has not been as easy as it usually is. I am finding out what it means when they say pregnant women have "food aversions" ....... although I have several mild aversions, turkey definitely tops the can't smell or eat list. For the first time, I might be convincing my family at Thanksgiving to buy a ham instead of a turkey!
I am also finding out why pregnant women need lots of fruits and vegetables, especially fiber filled ones. Foods are going into my body at rapid speeds (yes, I am still starving all day long), but not moving out quite as quickly. Of all the things I read about, I never thought this would happen to me.
Life has sure been interesting lately! Take care.

Tuesday, October 23rd….
was my first official OB appointment with Dr. Farmer, whom I must add was pleasantly surprised to see my back so soon. I was in his office almost exactly a month ago for a regular, yearly check-up. I was quick to tell him that I was just a surprised! His office is in Bedford, abut 15 miles from my office and about 10 from our condo.
First things first, they confirmed the pregnancy and loaded me up with tons of reading material and baby stuff. You know, the good stuff like…..breast pads, hemorrhoid cream, tips to reduce constipation and more(ha ha not really!). It’s a good thing I did not dig into the bag until I got home! The most exciting part of the visit was setting the first sonogram on November 25 at 9AM. Dr. Farmer was sure to remind me to bring my husband and I assured him that Jay would not miss.
Before I left his office, he asked me if we had told any of our family or friends yet. I told him that we did tell our families. Then he asked, “what was their reaction”? I told him since it was the first grandchild it was great news for all. Interestingly enough, he told me he has a daughter that is just about my age that is due about 2 weeks before our baby is due and that he was thrilled. He told me that it was important to keep everyone involved because it is not only a wonderful time in our life, but our families as well. So, I am following my doctors orders and trying to keep you all involved, like it or not!
By the way…the babies due date June 27th, so mark your calendars!

I have always hesitated....
starting a blog for fear that I just wouldn't be that good at it! Well, today I am turning over a new leaf. Jenny, my sister, is one of the most amazing women I know, especially when it comes to convincing me to buy into something new. As you can see, she has been up to it again! She loves blogs, so here I am chuggin' away to get my (or should I say "our" - mine and Jays) blog going.
So, before I go today....I would like to dedicate this blog to Jenny, our families and friends. Please stay tuned, we look forward to sharing our story with each of you!
